Uysal Withdraws from CHP Leadership Race

Uysal's Decision to Withdraw

During the 21st Extraordinary Congress of the CHP held at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Yenimahalle, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, along with Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal, announced his candidacy for the party's leadership. However, Uysal later announced his withdrawal to avoid damaging the party, stating:

"As you know, at today's date of the CHP Extraordinary Congress, I made an attempt to run for the CHP Chairmanship. Strengthening our party against the unlawful attacks of the government; building a strong and consistent management approach for the release of our imprisoned friends, especially Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu. Although satisfied with the performance of the current administration in the last 15 days, the party management needs to be restructured in the strongest way possible.

CHP should be able to embrace all of Turkey, accept the entire 85 million as companions, and reach a public support exceeding 50%. For these three main reasons, I have decided not to continue my candidacy claim for reasons that I will not express in detail here, in order not to damage my party."
